In the Area of Legislative Initiatives, We Support...

  • {short description of image}Mandatory safety belt laws, including a provision to require booster seats for young children.
  • Graduated Driver Licensing Laws, including passenger and nighttime driving restrictions for teen drivers.
  • Strong drunk driving laws, including Michigan's new 0.08% blood alcohol level standard for drunk driving offenses.
  • Reasonable and prudent speed limits on city streets and highways for both passenger vehicles and trucks as established by qualified engineering studies, e.g. speed limits based on the 85th-percentile speed.
  • Mandatory helmet use for motorcyclists, moped riders and bicyclists.
  • Legislation to establish standards for defensive driving courses and instructors including providing of incentives for drivers to enroll in such programs (point reduction or insurance discounts).
  • Child booster seat initiative - "Boost MI Kids".
